A picture of children playing amongst the rubble of the construction of Kersal flats.

A wide shot taken on the 12th February 1960 from the Oaklands Road area which shows all the flats during construction. Those who know the area will see that Shakespeare House is at an early stage of construction and only has a base at this stage. It is also noticeable that Kersal Dale still has more than a passing resemblance to a golf course.

A shot taken from Kinglsey Avenue on the 12th February 1960. It would appear that many of the flats are complete. In this picture only Keats Court and Shakespeare House appear to still have scaffoldding. Roll your mouse over the picture to see this area today.

A view from the same angle (also taken the 12th February 1960) but closer in. It is noticable that Keats Court, Shakespeare House and Burns House still have scaffolding but the rest do not. Also conspicuous by its absence is the Castle Public House. The scale of works involved is evidenced by the number of work huts on the green in the middle of the flats. Roll your mouse over the image to see the same spot 49 years later.

A shot from the same perspective (again taken on the 12th February 1960) but again further in. The scale of works undertaken in even more evident here. We can also see that the first set of shops (Byrom House) with maisonettes above have been constructed. Roll your mouse over the image to see the same sport in 2009

A great picture of Milton House when new (approximately 1960) taken from Spencer House. The estate is almost complete. You can see that the turf around Milton has just been layed but that the area in the middle of the flats is still just mud. Roll your mouse over the image for the same view on the 28th July 2011.
